While we encourage TRC patrons to use the TRC photocopier while studying and conducting research in the TRC, the TRC copier is not intended for large copy jobs. It is a small consumer grade office copier. It cannot handle the thousands of pages that students have, in the past, been asked to copy each semester. Therefore policies have been established regarding reserve materials and assignments that require students to use the TRC photocopier. Here is a picture of the TRC copier:

College of Education instructors and students have access to copiers that are designed to handle large copy jobs such as the Boiler Copy Center in the Union:

... and the Purdue libraries, Purdue Printing Services, Kinkos, etc.
If you need to copy entire books or large numbers of articles and chapters from books you should go to a professional copy center which has equipment that can handle the heavy usage.
The TRC copier is not intended for large and systematic copy jobs. Students should not be asked to use the TRC photocopier to copy materials that should otherwise be placed in supplemental course packets. The TRC photo copier is intended for copying small numbers of pages from books and materials in the TRC.
Entire books should not be placed in the TRC for the purpose of having students photocopy them. Click here for more information about copyright law.
For all courses taught by any given instructor per semester, no more than 100 pages should be placed in the TRC to be photocopied by students.
If an instructor has more than 100 pages for students to photocopy, supplemental course packets should be created by a local copy shop or printer. The TRC photocopier cannot handle large print jobs. Students who attempt to copy large jobs on the TRC's copier monopolize the copier and prevent other students from using the TRC copier for normal print jobs (an average of about 5 to 10 pages). Large print jobs also cause the copier to break down often and repairs are costly -- in terms of down-time and money.
Thank you for helping us address these important TRC issues!!!
